DVD:: Detecting Discomfort in Dementia:
Focus on Behaviors: What Nursing Assistants Need to Know about Pain (2006)
http://trc.wisc.edu/items.asp?itemID=113

This 13-minute educational video is designed to teach nursing assistants to identify the behaviors that cognitively impaired older adults may show when they are in pain or discomfort, and to understand the ways they can help cognitively impaired older adults get relief of their pain or discomfort. The accompanying booklet Tools for Inservice Education contains a discussion guide, role play, and knowledge test, as well as suggestions for how to introduce the video and adapt it for education geared toward culture change.

This $49.99 video is well-worth the cost. It shows real older adults with dementia who exhibit a variety of different behaviors that may be associated with pain, and ways that CNAs can help cognitively impaired older adults get relief of their pain or discomfort.
